Who it's for

  • Medicine, dentistry and nursing
  • Biomedical and other engineering
  • Life sciences, pharma and biotech
  • Computer and data science
  • Public health and health economics
  • Business, law and design

Every study stage

  • BScBachelor's students
  • MScMaster's students, incl. MD programmes
  • PhDDoctoral students and postdocs

What you cover

  1. 1Clinical need finding
  2. 2Design and user research with clinicians
  3. 3Regulatory strategy: Swissmedic, EU MDR, FDA
  4. 4Reimbursement and market access
  5. 5IP check
  6. 6AI and health data
  7. 7Pitch training

EIA World HealthTech Model

Test the market before you build it

The model simulates how a health product meets demand, regulation, buyers and cash. Teams use it to cut months of guessing down to days.

How the model works

  1. 1DemandWhich patients and clinicians need it, and how many
  2. 2ProductWhat is feasible to build and certify
  3. 3Go-to-marketHospitals, insurers or patients: who buys first
  4. 4BusinessCash, reimbursement timing and runway

Field trip · CERN, Geneva

From Lake Geneva to the Large Hadron Collider

One day of the EPFL week takes you to CERN, 40 minutes away by train. Physics built for the smallest particles now scans, treats and diagnoses patients. You find out how, then build on it.

Planned for week 1, to be confirmed with CERN

  • 27 kmLarge Hadron Collider ring
  • 40 minby train from Lausanne
  • 1 dayin week 1
  • 4medical technologies with CERN roots

Where particle physics became medicine

  • MedipixPixel detector chips from CERN, now used for colour X-ray and CT imaging.
  • Hadron therapyA CERN design study led to the CNAO and MedAustron cancer treatment centres.
  • CERN-MEDICISProduces rare radioisotopes for medical research.
  • PET scannersCERN detector work fed the early development of PET imaging.

The CERN challenge

  1. 1MorningTrain to Geneva and a visit to the CERN Science Gateway
  2. 2MiddayYour team picks one CERN-born technology
  3. 3AfternoonDesign a health product around it, test it in the World HealthTech Model
  4. 4EveningPitch it to your cohort, back in Lausanne by the lake
